climbing the peak of mount naupa wasn’t easy. i didn’t expect it to be an easy climb but i didn’t know it was going to be that difficult. take note though that i have only climbed 2 mountains in my life so maybe you’ll consider that factor too.
i have been blog-hopping about which mountains to climb and read foureyedlaagan’s post about the 6 mountains in cebu that he considers to be an easy climb for beginners. that post is bookmarked and now serves as my guide on which mountains to climb first. so thank you, foureyedlaagan 😀
back to mount naupa 😀
i planned to start climbing at 6am but i went back to sleep at 430am and only decided to push through with my plan at 9am because of grace’s prodding.
from my house, i rode a jeep plying the mandaue-ayala route, got off in mabolo and walked towards sm city cebu then took the bus bound for naga and told the driver to drop me off in tungkop, minglanilla. i ate brunch first before i got on a hb2x which brought me to the chapel in cogon, naga which is the jump.off for mount naupa. the hb2x ride took nearly an hour because it was really far.
my mandatory start of trek picture:
that’s my guide, dave 🙂
when you start the climb, be careful and really watch where you’re going because gamay ra jud kaayo ang agi.anan and bangin na ang other side. after 20minutes or so, the path will be wider. you’ll pass by a very batuon path which made the climb a little more difficult for me. you will see a lot of mango trees, wild flowers, sagbots and other mountains on your way to the top.
it took me an hour to reach the top of mount naupa, with a lot of time sa’s for me to catch my breath ranging from 5 to 10 minutes each time.
for novice climbers such as moi, i suggest that we do not push ourselves too much and hunong, take deep breathes and drink water whenever we need it. it is never a contest on how much time you spent reaching the top. just enjoy your climb.
i didn’t take a lot of pictures going up because i was too busy concentrating on where i was going and catching my breath.
in case you need some more water or cold soda and some crackers, dave’s family has a store midway. a 300ml royal true orange costs 20.00 though.
dave hasn’t eaten lunch pa diay so i made sure he did. we stayed there for 15minutes to chitchat and they were kind enough to let me borrow their powerbank or else i wouldn’t have taken pictures at the top.
from their store it was only a 20minute ascend to the top but first you had to pay the 20.00 entrance fee 🙂
and finally, i could see where i wanted to be:
i just had to take pictures too, as proof that i was really able to reach the top 🙂
the view from the top:
it also took me an hour to descend. climbing down is always easier compared to climbing up. i was just happy to be finally heading home and to be able to rest my tired and aching legs and feet, hehehehe 😀
and then i saw these cute kids when i reached the chapel:
and then it was byebye time 🙂
mount naupa, i am just glad i was able to experience you. the huffing and puffing were all worth it 🙂
