davao’s backyard burgers in cebu #bbcebu

there’s an existing thread in istorya.net about the best-tasting burgers and backyard burgers was mentioned as very lami and i got intrigued.

the burgers i’ve eaten have only been limited to mcdo, jobee, minute and angel’s, hahahahaha! ๐Ÿ™‚ one of the best burgers i’ve tasted is from bread asia and the most expensive burgers i’ve had were from army navy, zark’s and the one in casa verde.

bb burgers have always visited cebu every sinulog but i never had the chance to visit their pop-up store because of my work schedule.

but, i received this email 2 nights ago:

i had no idea how much their regular priced burgers were but found this email as a sign that it’s time that i try backyard burgers and the p1so sale was a good come-on too.

i took note of the operating hours and i went just right after my shift earlier.

the staff did not check the email when i mentioned i wanted to avail of the p1so burger – they did ask for my name though. as is in the email, i was advised i needed to buy a regular-priced burger to avail of the p1so burger promo.

i chose the extra cheesy burger which was also the cheapest – maayo na lang gani ๐Ÿ˜€

the menu:

the actual burger pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

extra cheesy:

it was really extra cheesy – there was cheese all over, yay! ๐Ÿ˜€ it’s lami but it’s a bit expensive for me though ๐Ÿ˜‰

the p1so burger: the bb yard burger ๐Ÿ™‚

it’s blah if you ask me. maybe i just want cheese, lettuce, mayo, catsup – the whole nine yards, in my burgers – or maybe just some cheese would’ve been ok ๐Ÿ˜€ add-ons are available if you want and maybe i should have paid extra for some cheese ๐Ÿ˜€ if i paid the regular price for this burger, i’d say it isn’t worth it.

their kitchen:

their space:

they’re open until 12:30 tonight but starting monday, backyard burgers’ operating hours will be until 11:30pm only.

i’ve finally tasted davao’s famous backyard burgers and although i haven’t found anything special that would make me want to come back anytime soon – i would want to give the cheesy bacon a try, one of these days ๐Ÿ˜‰

canigao island paradise

friends and family have always talked about how beautiful canigao island is but even though i grew up in hilongos, leyte (which is a good 45minutes away from the island) i never visited it until november 2015.

we (bernadette, cholo, tita carmel, nate, cassy, angelo and mama) went to canigao, a day after celebrating angelo’s 7th birthday.

from our house, we went sa tiangge sa hilongos and boarded a multicab bound for matalom, made sure that the driver will bring us to the pier going to the island.

the colorful umbrellas welcomed us, and the kids went straight to the tindahan to see what they can buy:

we waited awhile for the pumpboat to filled with other passengers.

it was a smooth-sailing boat ride, which was good because we were travelling with 3 kids ๐Ÿ˜€

i could finally see the island, which was a sight to behold even from afar.

we’re finally here! ๐Ÿ™‚

open cottages wwre available for rent and it was big enough for all of us:

i forgot what part of the island this was, but naay balay2x sa tunga sa dagat:

we were able to go around the island in less than 20minutes, that’s how tiny it was ๐Ÿ™‚

i was glad to see my family happy and that they enjoyed the time we spent together in the island – although ka.pila na sila balik2x sa canigao, ako ka.isa pa tawn, hahahahaha! ๐Ÿ™‚

we also boarded the same boat in going back to the mainland ๐Ÿ™‚

ba-bye canigao ๐Ÿ™‚

this trip was priceless as this was spent with my beloved family! ๐Ÿ™‚

biking in olango island

olango island

12march17

tl sky invited me to tag along when she planned to go biking around olango island. of course i said yaaaaaaassssss! ๐Ÿ™‚ tl sky, besh jinner (she is from olango and our host/guide) and i left mandaue at 5am; took a multicab bound for tamiya, got off in menzi then rode another multicab bound for eskina angasil. we then took a tricycle to the pier ๐Ÿ™‚

we saw this amazing sunrise when we were about to board the pumpboat going to olango island ๐Ÿ™‚

the sky was literally on fire ๐Ÿ™‚

the second picture was when we were about to disembark from the boat. another beautiful sunrise shot ๐Ÿ˜€

tl sky and i were both first-timers on the island and we were so happy to finally be there ๐Ÿ™‚

low tide! ๐Ÿ™‚

besh jinner’s mama prepared these: saging nilung.ag and pan bisaya:

we rented bicycles right after breakfast. we went to sitio candagsao – the owner’s house that rents the bikes is at the back of candagsao elementary school.

the rent is 10.00/hour. yes, it’s legit ๐Ÿ™‚

and then it was time to go biking! ๐Ÿ™‚

we went to one end of the island and took a lot of pictures:

then we biked going to our destination, which is at the opposite end of olango:

the boardwalk:

our food:

fresh sea urchin, sold at 10.00 each. i ate 1 – my friend joyjoy said this was locally called tihi-tihi ๐Ÿ˜€

the view from the cottage of the marine sanctuary:

swimming with the fishes ๐Ÿ™‚

and the ultimate summer splash ๐Ÿ˜‰

my kind of jump shot! ๐Ÿ˜€

took a break from swimming to pose and take everything in ๐Ÿ™‚

then it was time to go home ๐Ÿ˜€

although we were already very tired, we had no choice but to still use the bikes in going to the other side of the island to return our rented bicycles ๐Ÿ™‚

we had to stop by this spot because the scenery was just too beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

ah, the island life ๐Ÿ™‚

we had freshly-picked buko when we arrived in besh jinner’s house – thank you, kuya! ๐Ÿ™‚

high tide! ๐Ÿ™‚

then, it was time to go back to the big island and the city ๐Ÿ™‚ last boat trip from olango is at 6pm ๐Ÿ™‚

until next time, olango – i will surely be back ๐Ÿ˜€

Expenses for this trip:

8.00 mandaue to menzi

10.00 menzi to eskina angasil

8.00 eskina angasil to baybayon para sa pumpboat

12.00 pumpboat going to olango

60.00 bicycle rental (10.00/hour and we had the bike for a total of 6hours ;))

15.00 hilton to highway mandaue

optional expenses:

10.00 pantalan sa olango to bunga (vice-versa) – but we opted to walk from the pantalan, passed by the church and said a little prayer for us to be safe ๐Ÿ˜€ and going to pantalan from bunga, gihatod mi sa kuya ni besh jinner ๐Ÿ™‚

2 options and (fare) in going to and from olango island:

12.00 angasil port to olango

13.00 (including terminal fee) pantalan sa olango to angasil port

16.00 (including terminal fee) pantalan sa olango to movenpick

thank you besh jinner for being the perfect host and guide, for answering   my questions and for taking the perfect shot of the beautiful spot in olango, island ๐Ÿ™‚

thank you, tl sky for thinking of me and gipa-uban ko nimo ๐Ÿ˜€

hanggang sa muli, olango ๐Ÿ˜‰

carcar’s lechon and sandals/sapatos

carcar

26march17

i made a promise to “buy” lechon for my friend’s adine daughter’s dedication and even though i don’t eat lechon, people have always raved about carcar’s lechon and i think mao ni one of the tastiest as per people’s opinion, so off to carcar i went ๐Ÿ˜€

i arrived in time for lunch and went straight to the merkado and saw a lot people lining up for this:

i don’t really eat lechon but did so for the 4th time. i bought 1/4 kilo na lechon and bought rice and mountain dew at a nearby carenderia ๐Ÿ™‚

carcar is also known for the chicharon and other delicacies such as ampao and banana chips ๐Ÿ™‚

i’ve always wanted a picture in carcar’s rotonda and finally took a chance yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚

i had to ask a hb2x driver to take my picture though. a definite downside to traveling alone is you have to ask or even beg strangers to take your picture and pray your hardest that they know how to take really good pictures ๐Ÿ˜€ guides know though, which are the good places to pose and will even tell you to smile for the camera ๐Ÿ˜‰ (cue ate celda and her panoramic shot :D)

after a few poses, i forgot that i still haven’t heard mass but went to ride a multicab going to acacia grill to look for shoes and sandals that i volunteered to buy for my friends. ang ending? the driver forgot to drop me off in acacia grill but instead sa middle sa perelos bridge and gave me back my 7.00.

the pretty shoes and sandals in acacia grill, which were surprisingly more expensive than the ones displayed in colon:

after admiring all the beautifully-handcrafted shoes and sandals, i went to church na jud ๐Ÿ™‚

and after that, off i went to my next adventure! ๐Ÿ™‚

expenses:

40.00 – mini-bus fare from cebu to carcar

80.00 – 1/4 kilo lechon (lechon was sold at 320.00/kilo yesterday)

depending on the distance, choppy fare is 7.00 or 8.00 ๐Ÿ™‚

bakasyon grande in digos

i was lucky to be invited to besh adi’s daughter nina’s belated birthday celebration, january this year. i was tasked to make the itinerary but sadly, i wasn’t able to see or do anything that was on the list ๐Ÿ˜ก

selfie before we left for the airport:

in the plane, i saw my former officemate, mikel – he was going to mati:

the mandatory clouds shot ๐Ÿ˜‰

touchdown, davao ๐Ÿ™‚

after eating lunch in sm davao, we then traveled to digos. this was our home for 3days and 2nights. i am forever grateful to besh adi’s tati’s generosity for letting us stay in their beautiful house and everything was provided for including food.

belated happy birthday, baby besh nina:

even though we weren’t able to go anywhere in my proposed itinerary, besh adi brought us to these places:

and i experienced riding a horse for the 3rd time too! ๐Ÿ™‚

on our way home, we passed by these:

and i had to be contented with the statue ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

we weren’t able to go to samal but we went to little boracay instead ๐Ÿ™‚

on our way there:

little boracay! ๐Ÿ™‚

we went to a remote island to enjoy this beach:

to and from little boracay, you’d pass by a lot of banana plantations:

we had to spend the night in davao city for our flight back to cebu the next day ๐Ÿ™‚

our last supper for this trip:

i accidentally deleted pictures of the davao night market where i had the tastiest strawberry ice cream, yum! ๐Ÿ˜€

the flight back home to cebu ๐Ÿ™‚

i have to go back to davao for me to able to tick off some items in my bucket list ๐Ÿ™‚ but for this trip, i was able to be in another ‘pinas province ๐Ÿ˜€

we were chauffered around, we had accommodations that could rival a hotel’s and we had the most gracious hostess – it was really a bakasyon grande in my book! ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you again, besh adi and send my love to your tati and the rest of your family too! ๐Ÿ™‚

thank you besh adiiiii! ๐Ÿ™‚

joed’s lutong hapon

the first time i ate in joed’s lutong hapon was in their apm branch and i couldn’t keep my mind off the japanese pizza; lami jud kaayo.

earlier tonight, tl sky said that lami ang sabaw after mag.exercise and suggested we eat at akita japanese restaurant in mabolo, which she said were having a discount off their ramen.

we walked all the way from wireless fly-over over to panagdait in mabolo but lo and behold, closed ang akita.

although there were a lot of fastfood restaurants in the sykes area, i suggested joed’s and albur’s that tl sky might want to try but naa pa sa unahan. since tl sky suggested japanese ramen earlier, i thought joed’s lutong hapon was worth the additional walk we’d do – and walk we did.

joed’s lutong hapon is located across the convenience store nga buyon sa sarrosa hotel – it’s right next to pick and go, tapad sa sinangag express.

i found the interior deco pretty although i couldn’t understand anything ๐Ÿ™‚

ingon pa si tl sky, nindot ilang design sa wall – and i agree ๐Ÿ™‚

and now the food! ๐Ÿ™‚

i immediately explained to tl sky how i found the japanese pizza delicious and that we should order it ๐Ÿ™‚

okonomiyaki – 100.00

of course we had to order ramen because we wanted to drink sabaw:

ramen – 200.00

their ramen is soooo lami – the noodles were cooked just right.

california crunchy roll – 110.00

this was my discovery for the night – so crunchy and so yummy but it took a long time before naluto. it was worth the wait though.
aside from the delicious food, joed’s is a winner in my book because of their price. our 3 orders totaled 410.00 only ๐Ÿ™‚

because healthy-living na mi ni tl sky, we just had water ๐Ÿ™‚

order the okimamiyaki when you eat at joed’s lutong hapon. promise, it’s lami ๐Ÿ™‚

papart’s diner and cafรจ

papart’s first caught my attention 2years ago when they were still known as papart’s tuslob buwa.

i visited their tipolo branch with my good friend darymme but we did not order their tuslob buwa, we chickened out at the last minute. what we ordered were all delicious and the price was just affordable.

i got to know the one of the owners debbie, through istorya.net and i was even invited to the opening of their capitol branch, because of gayle, another istoryan, who is also my friend.

that was the first time i tasted their carbonara and panna cotta.i am certainly not a foodie – it’s all either lami (delicious) or way lami (not delicious) for me.

i gave both the carbonara and panna cotta, my lami seal of approval.

last year, my friend mentioned that there was “lami nga unli chicken and pasta” sa may parkmall and i thought she was referring to burrow but when she said the restaurant name was papart’s i had to ask debbie if they own it and if they now serve unli chicken.

i don’t remember getting a confirmation that they own it, but for the unli chicken and pasta, i went with my friends the next time they had an eating session.

although the restaurant’s interior decoration was kept simple, the new papart’s is 100% prettier than before. they also now have a new name: papart’s diner and cafe ๐Ÿ™‚

the price for their unli promo (picture taken from the net)

198.00 unli chicken with 8 flavors, 1 round of tuna carbonara or bolognese fetuccine, bottomless iced tea and unli rice.

248.00 unli chicken wings, unli tuna carbonara and bolognese fettucine, bottomless iced tea and unli rice.

348.00 unli chicken wings and shrimps combo (10pcs wings and 1platter shrimp per order), bottomless iced tea and unli rice.

398.00 unli chicken wings and shrimps, unlimited sizzling sisig, tuna carbonara and bolognese fettucine, bottomless iced tea and unli rice.

i paid 248.00 and had a sumptuous meal of:

unli chicken wings:

unli carbonara:

unli bolognese fettucine (but this will just be spaghetti to me :D)

the 248.00 meal includes 1 round of sizzling sisig which is yummy! ๐Ÿ™‚

bottomless iced tea:

a companion ordered the 348.00 meal and this is how the shrimps look like.i ate 2 when the ate’s at papart’s weren’t looking ๐Ÿ˜€ lami sad ilang shrimps ๐Ÿ˜‰

i ate for the 2nd time last month and papart’s still did not disappoint. their carbonara is definitely worth coming back for. i paid 198.00 this time because i just wanted to binge on carbonara and chicken wings ๐Ÿ˜€

from being sikat for their tuslob buwa and other lutong bahay dishes, the all-new papart’s diner and cafe, can now give the more established but more expensive unli chicken restaurants, a run for their money.

hands-down, papart’s carbonara is the best and their sour cream and honey soy garlic sauces for their chicken wings are the yummiest.

aside from the yummy and delicious food, their prices are just affordable too.

hungry already? their address is:

papart's diner and cafe
2nd floor
maroo arcade, mandaue city

they’re open from 10am to 10pm but you can still book an appointment beyond 10pm, just call them at 032 3280798.
